At Blue Planet Geomatics, we work with organizations across Canada whose operations depend on uninterrupted, high-integrity GNSS signals. Our customers include telecommunications providers, timing-critical infrastructure operators, survey and marine teams, defence users, and UAV operators. As GNSS becomes increasingly central to navigation and precise timing, interference has become a growing threat. Both intentional jamming and unintentional RF noise can overpower GNSS signals, leading to degraded accuracy or complete signal loss. These disruptions can cascade into safety risks, network outages, or operational downtime. This rising vulnerability is one of the reasons Blue Planet has added Calian’s AJ977XF anti-jamming GNSS antenna to our product lineup. It provides the level of interference resilience our customers now require in today’s RF environments.
GNSS signals are inherently weak by the time they reach Earth. Even small nearby transmitters or electronics such as cell towers, LTE or 5G systems, and SATCOM terminals can mask or distort them. Unintentional interference from communication towers and other electronic devices has become a serious reliability issue for GNSS-based navigation and timing systems. Low-cost jammers also pose a growing deliberate threat to aviation, critical infrastructure, and defence users. In precise timing applications such as telecommunications networks, financial systems, and power grids, even brief disruptions can trigger widespread operational problems.
The Calian AJ977XF addresses these challenges through a combination of advanced antenna design and robust filtering. It is a triple-band, multi-constellation GNSS antenna engineered to maintain reliable signal quality in interference-prone environments. It achieves this resilience through three core technologies. First, as a low-elevation angle nulling antenna, it uses a stacked helical phased-array design to create a null zone around the horizon, where most interference sources appear. This helps block low-angle interference from jammers and ground-based RF energy. Second, extended filtering technology blocks out-of-band interference such as LTE and 5G transmissions, preventing high-power signals from overwhelming GNSS reception. Third, the enhanced low-noise amplifier is engineered to withstand strong in-band signals without saturating, which allows the antenna to operate effectively near communication towers and other high-power emitters.
The antenna supports L1, L2, and L5 signals and maintains tracking across GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou. If one GNSS frequency is compromised, the antenna can continue operating on others. For many Blue Planet clients, this multi-constellation resilience is increasingly important as RF environments grow more crowded and reliability requirements tighten. Because the AJ977XF maintains a low phase-center offset and does not rely on dynamic radiation pattern shaping, it is also a strong choice for reference stations where stability is essential.
The antenna’s real-world performance is one of the main reasons Blue Planet supports this technology. It has demonstrated strong jamming mitigation results in independent testing and has been validated by users operating in high-risk RF conditions, including contested areas where active jamming is present. Its ability to maintain positioning in these scenarios makes it a compelling option for mission-critical operations in defence, critical infrastructure, marine navigation, and timing applications.
For Canadian organizations working near powerful transmitters, in ports and harbours, close to airports, or in environments where interference is a constant concern, the Calian AJ977XF provides a practical and robust layer of GNSS protection. Blue Planet offers guidance, system design support, and integration expertise to help clients determine whether the AJ977XF is the right fit for their operational needs.
